Protecting your data matters to us. This privacy policy explains what data the "EVRadar" app processes, what it's used for, and what rights you have.

What Data We Process
Location
When you first launch EVRadar, it asks for permission to use your location "while using the app." Your location is used exclusively to search for charging stations near you and to calculate your distance to them. Your location is sent to Apple's map service (MapKit) to perform this search. We do not operate our own servers and do not permanently store your location history. Without location access, the app's core function will not work, but you can revoke this permission at any time in iOS Settings.
Charging Station Data
Information about charging stations — address, opening hours, photos, ratings, connector types, availability — is displayed automatically and comes from mapping services. We do not collect or store this information ourselves. If you tap "Report a Problem" on a station, Apple's own reporting page opens; what you send there goes directly to Apple, not to us.
Ad-hoc Prices
For charging stations in Germany, EVRadar shows the ad-hoc price, meaning what charging costs without a contract. Operators have to publish these prices under the EU's AFIR regulation; EVRadar fetches them from the open charging point database (OCPDB) of MobiData BW, the mobility data platform of the German state of Baden-Württemberg. To do so, the app sends the coordinates of the station you're viewing, or starting a charge at, to the public interface api.mobidata-bw.de; it also downloads the list of tariffs at most once a day. Since you usually look at stations near you, this can roughly reveal where you are. Your own location, your favorites, and your charging history are not sent, and the requests contain no account or identifier of yours. As with any internet connection, the operator of the interface technically receives your IP address; MobiData BW is responsible for the processing there. The app keeps the prices it fetches only temporarily in memory; if you take them over into a charging session, they are stored with it in your charging history.
Favorites
When you save a charging station as a favorite, its name, coordinates, and any note you add are stored on your device and — if you're signed in to iCloud — synced through your private iCloud (see "iCloud Sync"). This data is not transmitted to us or any third party.
Charging History (EVRadar Pro)
With EVRadar Pro, you can log your charging sessions. Each entry can include the charging station, start and end time, charge level, energy delivered, price and fees, provider, invoice number, VAT, odometer reading, a business flag, and a note. You enter this information yourself, or the app calculates it from your input. It is stored on your device and — if you're signed in to iCloud — synced through your private iCloud. We have no access to it.
My Car and Comparison Values
Details about your vehicle (connector type, charging power, battery capacity), the consumption and fuel price used for the comparison with a combustion car, and your home electricity rate are stored on your device and kept in step with your other devices via iCloud's key-value store. All other app settings stay on the individual device.
iCloud Sync
To keep your favorites, charging history, and vehicle details the same across all your devices, EVRadar uses Apple's iCloud (CloudKit private database and the iCloud key-value store). This data lives in your personal iCloud account and counts toward your iCloud storage. Only you can access it — we as the developer cannot view or analyze it. The service is provided by Apple, and Apple's Privacy Policy applies. If you're not signed in to iCloud or have turned off iCloud for EVRadar, all data stays exclusively on your device.
Notifications
If you allow it, EVRadar reminds you shortly before a charging session is expected to finish, shortly before a blocking fee starts at the station, and in the evening after a charge that is still missing its energy or price. These are purely local notifications scheduled by your device itself — no server is involved. You can revoke this permission at any time in iOS Settings.
Live Activity, Widgets, CarPlay, Siri, and Spotlight
A running charging session can be shown as a Live Activity on the Lock Screen, in the Dynamic Island, and on a paired Apple Watch. Widgets show the availability of your favorites; for this, the app places a small summary of your favorites in a shared area on your device. In CarPlay, EVRadar shows charging stations near your location. With Siri and the Shortcuts app, you can use the app's features by voice or automation; your voice requests are processed by Apple. On iOS 27, the app tells Siri which charging station you're looking at — its name, address, and coordinates, as they come from Apple Maps — so you can ask about it; if you ask Siri to send a station to someone, it's passed on as a place. The names, addresses, and coordinates of your favorites are added to Spotlight's search index on your device, so you can find them from the Home Screen. None of this data is transmitted to us.
Export
You can export your charging history as a CSV file and turn your business charges into a PDF expense report, with the date, place, provider, note, invoice number, energy, VAT, and amount of each charge. Both files are created on your device. Where you share them (e.g. by email, to a printer, or to another app) is entirely up to you.
Backups
EVRadar can save your favorites, charging history, and vehicle and comparison values as a backup file. Unless you turn it off in the app's Settings, it does so automatically once a week in your iCloud Drive (folder "EVRadar"), or on your device if iCloud Drive isn't available; it keeps the last five backups and one per month for the last six months, and removes older ones. With "Back Up Now", you can also save a backup file wherever you choose. The file is a readable, unencrypted JSON file and may contain station locations, your notes, and invoice numbers. Backups stay in your iCloud Drive or wherever you put them — they are not transmitted to us. You can delete them at any time in the Files app.
Purchases (EVRadar Pro)
Subscriptions and the one-time purchase of "EVRadar Pro" are handled entirely through Apple's in-app purchase system (StoreKit). We never receive any payment or card data — that stays with Apple. We only learn whether a purchase is valid, in order to unlock the corresponding features.
Feedback
If you tap "Send Feedback" in Settings, an email to us opens in which the app fills in the app version, iOS version, device model, and language setting, so we can follow up on your request. You see these details before sending and can delete them; the email is only sent if you send it yourself. If no mail app is set up, EVRadar only copies our address to the clipboard. We use your email address and the content of your message solely to reply to you and to fix problems.
Charging Station Operator Websites and Other Apps
If you tap a link to a charging station operator's website within the app, it opens in an in-app browser. The respective operator, not us, is responsible for the content and data processing of these external websites. At stations in Germany, the "Ladefuchs" button opens the Ladefuchs app for comparing charging tariffs, if it's installed — EVRadar checks this only on your device. No data is passed to Ladefuchs.
What We Don't Do
- We do not use third-party analytics or tracking software.
- We do not show ads and do not use ad networks.
- We do not create user accounts or require registration.
- We do not sell data to third parties.

Your Rights
Where the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, and restrict the processing of your data, as well as the right to data portability and objection. Since we do not store personal data on our own servers, these rights in practice mainly concern the app permissions you can manage directly in your device's iOS Settings. You can delete favorites and charging history entries directly in the app at any time; the deletion is carried over to iCloud as well. Backup files made before a deletion still contain the deleted entries until you delete those files in the Files app. You can also remove all of EVRadar's iCloud data in iOS Settings under "[Your Name] > iCloud > Manage Storage". You are also welcome to contact us at any time with requests (see Contact).
Children
EVRadar is rated 4+ on the App Store and is suitable for all ages. As described above, the app does not require an account and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time, for example when the app or legal requirements change. The current version is always available on this page.
